An update from Turtle Island from the Mura Buai team
Ghenoa, Danielle, Elle and our Aussie team of Luke Currie-Richardson, Taryn Laleen and Berthalia Selina Rueben have just arrived on Turtle Island for the beginning of a month-long creative exchange and redevelopment of Ghenoa’s work Mura Buai.
We are working with Anishinabbe kwe choreographer and performer Christine Friday, from our co-producing partner Friday Creeations. Mura Buai will be performed at the National Arts Centre, Ottawa, and at Native Earth Performing Arts in Toronto, as part of Aluna Theatre’s CAMINOS Festival.
After touching down in Ottawa, the team travelled to the amazing Big Medicine Studio at Aanmitaagzi where they met with our Canadian collaborators Sid Bobb, Josée Bourgeois and Christine Friday.
They will spend the next two weeks playing in the world of Mura Buai that Ghenoa has created with co-Director Danielle, exploring the intersections between Torres Strait culture and stories and those from the Turtle Island mob.
Following this development and rehearsal, we go to Ottawa’s National Arts Centre for their Mòshkamo Festival from 25 to 27 September, and on to Toronto’s CAMINOS 2019 program, produced by Aluna Thetare and Native Earth Performing Arts, where Ghenoa will be international guest artist!
