A message from Force Majeure
It is with mixed emotions that we acknowledge the recent news that we were successful in regaining four-year funding through the Australia Council for the Arts.
Force Majeure has spent the last four years making relevant and challenging art that questions the human condition, and supporting our best and brightest independent artists to do the same. We couldn’t have done it without the support of you, our audience, and our small but invaluable network of donors. Thank you!
We are very grateful that our artistic peers and the Australia Council has recognised the contribution that we make to audiences and artists in Australia and overseas.
We say this with mixed emotions as we know exactly what many of our colleagues and friends are going through on receiving very difficult news. We’ve been there.
The current state of severely reduced arts funding in Australia cannot be sustained and should not be tolerated. At a time when we are forced apart by a collective desire to protect the most vulnerable in our communities, it is arts and culture that is keeping us connected, sustained and fulfilled, as much as that is possible.
We stand with our colleagues, with artists and with audiences to call on the Federal Government to immediately support the cultural sector, an engine room contributing $111.7 billion to the economy while powering the hearts and minds of the nation.
